Accounts/Audit Senior Role

The Role

We are looking for a Senior to support the Manchester partners. The mix of work in the group is varied and consists of a few hundred clients including high net worth individuals, partnerships, trusts, professional sole traders and limited companies with turnovers of up to £100 million, although the average would be nearer £10 million.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage some technically challenging statutory audits and to oversee (getting involved as necessary) with accounts preparation work, to include consolidations and cash flow statements.  Reporting will be to the partner group.

The role requires someone with outstanding technical skills (likely to be demonstrated by first time passes and an ACA/ACCA qualification) and with a mixed background of audit and accounts work, wishing to build on his/her experience in a fast growing office that will provide opportunities for progression.

In summary, the role can currently be split approximately as follows:

  • 60% on statutory audits;
  • 15% preparing financial statements in respect of limited companies, partnerships and trusts (although this will reduce as the audit workload increases);
  • 10% training, marketing and other non-chargeable activities; and
  • 15% ad hoc projects/reports for the client base

The Individual

The ideal candidate will be committed to a career in general practice and will have a strong relevant experience in a medium to large sized accountancy firm, currently operating in the capacity of an audit and accounts senior (or at a slightly more junior level but already demonstrating potential for partnership).  Strong academic and technical skills are a prerequisite.

Candidates should be educated to at least A level standard, ideally degree level (2:1 or above) gained from a top university.

The candidate should have a detailed knowledge of bookkeeping, sufficient enough to enable them to manage client relationships where the in-house finance function is inadequate.  They should currently spend at least half of their time on audit assignments. They should also be able to provide evidence of outstanding client service levels, problem solving skills and the ability to use their own initiative.  Previous experience of using computerised accounts or audit packages is useful.  The firm uses CCH audit software and CCH for accounts preparation.

The successful applicant will require confidence in dealing with partners and clients, excellent organisation and interpersonal skills and the ability to provide accurate work in a timely and cost effective manner.  With this role comes the pre-requisite that the candidate is motivated, committed and flexible with the ability to meet deadlines.  A natural team player is essential, with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
